For Shadows & Light, FACP Artistic Director Emily Levin (DSO Principal Harp) joined sisters Jennifer Choi (DSO cello) and Julia Choi (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra violin) for their first performance of Henriette Renié’s Trio for violin, cello and harp, a virtuosic tour de force that revolutionizes the established conventions of this ensemble. Both concerts were followed by CODA: a live Q&A with the artists via Zoom.

Music Academy of the West Names Concerto Finalists

Having bested the field at this year’s Concerto Competition Finals, six accomplished instrumentalists will take featured turns as soloists with the Music Academy of the West Festival Orchestra at the Granada Theatre on Saturday, July 21.

Fine Arts Chamber Players give a bold, impassioned account of an obscure trio

In a rendition characterized by youthful vigor and great sensitivity, the musicians enlivened the very bones of the piece, revealing new subtleties and depths.

The Choi sisters both showcased gorgeously rich tones, and spun out smooth melodic lines. A harpist of tremendous range, Levin conjured up an array of colors and produced a bold, powerful sound when needed. All three met virtuosic demands with aplomb.
